NEUSE SAILING ASSOCIATION - Socials

NSA Social, Race, Ball, & Golf

NSA sponsors social events for members throughout the year and in every season. These events are generally free to members and the value received can easily pay for a membership. Beverages, snacks, and entertainment are generally provided.

Charlie Overcash, Vice Commodore of Socials

Social at M&M's

Location: M&M's, Oriental
Time: Saturday, 15 October

The October social will be at M&M’s. The date for this exceptional social is Saturday, 15 October, at 1530 (3:30 pm). The new owner of M&Ms, Dave, is going to put out quite a spread. We will be treated to baby back ribs, bacon wrapped shrimp, poppers and a vegi plate. All this with beer and wine.

Dave has  been in the process of enclosing the deck section where we have had our social in past years and will have the new addition finished in early October. He is looking forward to hosting the NSA social and will be on hand to meet those of us who have not met him.

Frank Wilson/Larry White Memorial Race

Jim Beacham, Commodore

The Frank Wilson/Larry White memorial Race will take place on 22 October. The goal of this race is to have fun, sail fast around the government marks, raft-up in South River , and socialize with your fellow sailors for a couple of hours.

How it works: email me (jbeacham@nc.rr.com) your name, boat name, make and length (we need all that to get your handicap rating before the race).  At 1000 on 22 October, tune your VHF radio to channel 16 and listen for directions to switch to a working channel. There we will announce the starting times and the starting order. The starting line will be between Oriental #1 and the Committee Boat (my boat), and the first start will be at 1100 with subsequent starts at 3 minute intervals. The race will be from Oriental #1 to Adams Creek #1(leave that mark to port), to Garbacon Shoal #7 (leave it to starboard) and finish between the South River Entrance Mark and the anchored boat. Continue into South River to anchor, and raft up for the social.

Remember: Arriving first does not necessarily mean you won. You must race,  raft up, and socialize to be eligible for a prize. Awards will be presented by the Commodore at his sole discretion. No protests are allowed.

Commodore's Ball

Jim Beacham, Commodore

I truly hope you will join me and the other officers of this year’s Neuse Sailing Association in celebrating the year at the 32nd Annual Commodore’s Ball.  We will have it on Saturday, 19 November, at the Minnesott Country Club.  The meal will start at 1900 (7:00 PM) and there will be a cash bar for beer and wine.  After dinner and the awards presentation, we will present the officers for next year’s bridge.  Then we will clear away some of the tables and dance the night away to The Fabulous Shades.  You have heard them in Oriental playing for the Oriental Cup and other events and now we have them for the Commodore’s Ball.

Tickets to the Commodore’s Ball are $40 per couple. Please make your reservations by 11 November,  so we can get the right number for the caterer.  Your check will be your reservation. Make your checks out to the NSA and send them to my home address at 219 Lochside Drive,  Cary, NC 27511

Remember, we must have your check for this event no later than Friday, 11 November.

I hope to see you there celebrating another wonderful year with the Neuse Sailing Association, and welcoming the incoming Officers.

Second Annual Captain’s Choice Golf Tournament

Jim Beacham, Commodore

The second annual NSA Captain’s Choice Golf Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, 19 November starting at 1100 at the Minnesott Golf and Country Club.  The four man teams will go off with each team captain making the decision which shot will be used to complete the hole.  The NSA squad will be making the rounds in a golf cart with refreshments. Anyone taking this tournament seriously will be assessed a 10 stroke fine.  Awards will be presented at the Commodore’s Ball later that night and you must be present to get your prize.

If you are interested in playing, please email me at jbeacham@nc.rr.com (or call my cell at 919-349-2544) with your name and handicap. If you want to play with your buddies, email me the names of your foursome, and their handicaps.

Check out the NSA Calendar.
